Preston Smith is a seventh generation Georgian - born and raised in the heart of Dixie. He lives in the historic community of Vinings on the northwestern outskirts of Atlanta with his wife, Liz, children and three dogs - a Labrador Retriever, Dyllan (named after Bob), a German Shorthaired Pointer, Grady, (the mighty "hunting dog" who is generally afraid of the outdoors), and their neurotic Australian Shepherd, Portia.
He traces his lineage back to seventeenth century Englishmen who drank beer for medicinal purposes to survive their trans-Atlantic voyage, which explains his irritable bowel, crooked teeth, snarky attitude and general aversion to anything oceanic.
A graduate of Baylor University and the University of Georgia School of Law, Preston currently works as the President of Tyler & Company, an executive search firm in the healthcare field. He previously served four terms as a Georgia State Senator and now squanders his spare time trying to persuade his thee hunting dogs to act less like house cats and more like well - hunting dogs.
Preston enjoys an avocation of writing humor columns and nostalgia articles with a distinctly southern flavor. He has been a featured speaker at retreats and conferences and writes for publications about Southern culture and sentimentality.
